For many Divemasters, the natural next step is to take the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) allowing them to expand their diving knowledge and further their diving career.
 
As a PADI Open Water Scuba Diving Instructor (OWSI) you are able to teach the full range of PADI program up to Divemaster level. The OWSI rating also allows instructors to teach the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty. To teach additional specialty courses the instructor will need to be certified as a specialty instructor for that each particular specialty they wish to teach.

The program runs on an 11 day schedule with an additional 5 days of pre-IDC workshops. The pre – IDC workshops generally prepare candidates to make a smooth transition onto the Instructor Development Course (IDC). The workshops include reviewing dive theory and practicing dive skills. The PADI Instructor program teaches candidates about the PADI training philosophy and teaching techniques. Candidates will also be required to attend presentations about sales, marketing, risk assessment, diver acquisition, the business of diving. They will learn how to organize and conduct all aspects of teaching PADI programs in a fun and educational way practicing individual classroom, confined and open water presentations.
